Alternative Speaking Activities

The teachers in class develop many speaking activities with the students because they have to improve their fluency and the activities help learners to participate. I'm going to present two good speaking activities that teachers can do in class.

Information Gap Activities like Completing the picture: The two partners have similar pictures, each with different missing details, and they cooperate to find all the missing details. In another variation, no items are missing, but similar items differ in appearance. For example, in one picture, a man walking along the street may be wearing an overcoat, while in the other the man is wearing a jacket. The features of grammar and vocabulary that are practiced are determined by the content of the pictures and the items that are missing or different. Differences in the activities depicted lead to practice of different verbs. Differences in number, size, and shape lead to adjective practice. Differing locations would probably be described with prepositional phrases.

Role-play: In this speaking activity, the teacher gives information the students about who they are and they have to take a role of an existing character or person and acting it out with a partner taking someone else's role, often involving different genres of practice.

I think that is important that teachers have different kind of speaking activities because it helps learners to practice English and it helps them to speak in a fluency way. The teacher can hear the pronunciation and she/he can correct their mistakes.

How to deal with Disruptive Students?

Nowadays, teachers have to know how to deal with disruptive students.I am going to write two examples about it.

The teacher is explaining about the past simple and a student Carlos starts eating cookies and the teacher says: Please, don't interrupt the class, but the student continues eating;so, the teacher stops to explain the class and says: Carlos is not allow eating in class! I'am teaching the grammar and you have to listen to me, please. Finally,Carlos says: Sorry miss! and the miss says: no problem!

In the classroom, a cell phone starts to ring and Andrea, who is an English student, answers and starts to talk on the phone while the teacher is explaining an activity. The teacher says: Andrea, when you receive an important call, you can answer it but out the class please! I'm giving the instructions about the activity,so it's very important that all of you listen what you have to do.Andrea says: OK, miss!

In my opinion, the teacher reactions were fine because the teachers tell to their students what they are doing is good or bad,so the student have to recognize his or her mistake and have to respect the teacher and the classmates because all of the students want to learn new things in each class.
